I learned several new things:
- My jacket's not as breathable as I thought it was
- My hat's too hot
- Walking in snow is hard work
- My gloves aren't waterproof
- Walking in snow is hard work
- Trekking poles are hard work, and technique must be learned
- Did I mention Walking in snow is hard work?
All things considered, to have clocked in the highest mileage yet on a walk- in these conditions - is something to be quite pleased with. It took abot 7 and a half hours. I shall cherish the aches and pains for the rest of the evening, and be in the Gym for 8am tomorrow!
This is all great training - many of the days on the coast to coast will be about this length (but with more hills). Trailtrekker (sponsor us, see top right panel!) will be four times this length, in thirty hours. So that's the same pace as today's walk. That's ever so slightly scary!
